A progressive voice of the digital age, we are fighting for our digital freedoms in software, hardware and on the Internet. We watch for corporate abuse as well as promote knowledge and educate people about the dangers our rights currently face such as DRM and software patents. We do this with a focus on the Free Software movement and the ideals presented by the EFF, FSF, ACLU, and the hacker ethic.

Victory: Facebook Reverses Policy on Beacon

rkamens's picture

Comrades,

"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."
-- Ghandi

I am proud to announce that due to the joint efforts of MoveOn, Binary Freedom Activists, and over 50,000 of our friends, Facebook has gone through a policy reversal on their beacon program. Users now must proactively select that a news story be published in their feed before it is, requiring them to explicitly say that they want the story published. This is a huge victory but it isn't the end of the line for our protest. We need to continue pressuring Facebook until they allow a universal opt-out. Can you please take 30 seconds to email facebook? Send an email to privacy@facebook.com and then go here to submit your report so MoveOn can keep track of how many people sent emails. We are winning.

Keep up the fight,
Comrade Ringo Kamens
